Yogyakarta— Fifty-two students (2nd and 4th semester) from the D3 Pharmacy Program at Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan have goes an industrial visit and study tour to PT. Merapi Herbal Farma, Yogyakarta, on August 4, 2025. This activity aimed to broaden students' knowledge regarding the production, processing, and quality control of herbal-based traditional medicines and served as a demonstration of the Pharmacognosy course. During the visit, the students were accompanied by their supervisors, Apt. Sri Bintang Sahara M.K.N., M.Farm, and Apt. Riana Prastiwi Handayani, M.Farm, and welcomed by the Merapi Herbal Farma public relations and management teams. The group received an explanation of the company's history, traditional medicine production standards that comply with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and herbal product innovations that have been marketed nationally. In addition, the students were also taken on a tour of the production facility to observe firsthand the stages of raw material processing and the practical application of traditional drink powder preparations. In this activity, students gained real-world experience with the principles of pharmacognosy they had learned in their lectures. The Head of the Diploma 3 Pharmacy Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan, apt. Sri Bintang Sahara M.K.N., M.Farm, stated that the industrial visit is a routine activity held every two years. "We hope students can gain a practical understanding of the herbal medicine production process, while also preparing themselves to face the challenges of the pharmaceutical industry," she said. Meanwhile, representatives from PT Merapi Herbal Farma welcomed the visit and emphasized the importance of mastering technical competencies and professional ethics for pharmacists. With this industrial visit, it is hoped that the Diploma 3 Pharmacy students at Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan will be further motivated to develop their knowledge and skills in the pharmaceutical field, particularly in the development of traditional medicines based on Indonesia's natural resources.
